Training
Classes
In order to maintain recognised professional training standards K9 Companions operates the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme and a detailed syllabus for the appropriate course is presented to each handler on registration.
All our courses are monitored every eight weeks by a Kennel Club approved external examiner who records our success ratio. (Currently running at
92%).
Last year we trained 134 dogs across all breeds including Boxers, GSD, St Bernard, West Highland Terrier, Whippet, Miniature Schnauzer, Border Collie, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Jack Russell, Setter, Pointer plus a large selection of mongrels and rescue dogs. Twenty-one of these dogs achieved the top Kennel Club Gold Award.
Puppy Foundation:
Suitable for puppies or dogs (Under 12 months old) that have had no previous formal training. This course covers basic obedience, pack mentality and explains how to avoid future problems (running away, barking, jumping up etc.) Your puppy will learn how to walk on a lead, stay, come when called and how to behave. There is a Kennel Club Rosette and Diploma for all successful students
Bronze Award:
This is an Intermediate Award for dogs over 12 months old or those that have successfully completed the Puppy Foundation course. All the previously learned basics are expanded to include control at door or gate and how to behave in the company of other dogs and people. There will be a formal Test on Week Eight adjudicated by an external examiner and Kennel Club Rosettes and Bronze Diplomas will be issued for successfully completing the course.
Silver Award:
This course is open only to Bronze Award winners and expands all of the above with the introduction of distractions and includes a road walk, food manners, entering and leaving a vehicle, a two-minute down stay and a controlled greeting. There will be a formal Test on Week Eight adjudicated by an external examiner and Kennel Club Rosettes and Silver Diplomas will be issued for successfully completing the course
Gold Award
The Kennel Clubs top Gold Award is available only to Silver Award Winners and includes all of the above plus Relaxed Isolation and a remote Stop where handlers will be expected to stop their dog from ANY location on command. There will be a formal Test on Week Eight adjudicated by an external examiner and Kennel Club Rosettes and Gold Diplomas will be issued for successfully completing the course
THE GREAT OUTDOORS
Many owners of otherwise obedient dogs tell us they have trouble
maintaining behaviour on walks. Dogs that will come when called
in the garden often go deaf when they meet other dogs.
Walking quietly to heel is often a problem in a more distracting
outdoor environment.
In response to many requests we will be running a Sunday morning
outdoor class where we can demonstrate in a more natural
environment how to transfer good obedience work into the real
world.
Classes will run for eight weeks from Sunday May 29 and will be
for one hour starting at 9-30 am from Morley Green Club in
Wilmslow. We’ll keep it small so everyone can have some personal
tuition. We know it’s the holiday season and not everyone will
be able to make every class but we have to hold it while the
weather is suitable.
Like all our classes the cost is £95 and you can enrol on line
with a credit/debit card by following this link……pay

SPECIALIST TRAINING
One to One Home Visit
This is a detailed two-hour assessment where we observe your dog in his own environment, take him for a walk and formulate a programme to help you improve his general behaviour. We will ask you a lot of questions about how and when your dog exercises, trains and relaxes; his relationship with other people/dogs/animals and how and with whom he plays. You will learn a lot about your dog and receive a detailed set of training exercises you can do together.
